Andrew Brandt, Class of 2014

Andrew Brandt, Class of 2014WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST MEMORABLE AND IMPACTFUL MOMENTS AT CONCORDIA IN CHOIR/FINE ARTS?

One of my greatest memories at CISS with Fine Arts was always the Pops concerts at the end of the year. Every group could see every other group perform and it was just amazing to be a part of. The following days kids would talk about how much fun it was or how good something sounded. It really felt like a community and we were brought closer together because of it.

HOW DID YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN MUSIC/THE PERFORMING ARTS HELP YOU TO GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

Being able to talk about music definitely helped me make friends in college because we would talk about playing different instruments. Having even a basic understanding of notes and rhythms gave me something to talk with others about.

DID YOU/DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN ANY MUSICAL/THEATRE GROUPS AT UNIVERSITY? PLEASE LIST.

None

WHEN YOU LOOK BACK AT YOUR TIME SPENT AT CONCORDIA HOW IMPORTANT WAS YOUR TIME SPENT IN ORCHESTRA? AND HOW DO THESE MEMORIES COMPARE TO YOUR AP CLASSES?

AP classes were important for getting into college and being competitive. Fine Arts classes were great because it was a way to express myself creatively and laugh with friends. I swear I spent most of my time laughing or smiling in Strings classes.

Are you involved in music now?  Are you currently singing/performing?  Are you receiving/teaching private lessons?  Do you have plans for the future?  Do you attend concerts or performances and shows?  Do you donate funds to arts charity groups?  Do you participate in the music program at your church?

I (unfortunately) haven't made time to go to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra yet, but I'd love to get tickets and go several times this year. I constantly have orchestral music playing in the background at work and I appreciate it more because of my experience at Concordia.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR MUSIC/PERFORMING ARTS EXPERIENCES/EXPERTISE AS YOU GO FORWARD IN LIFE?

I really don't know. I have my string bass and it is stored at my grandparent's house because I don't have room in my apartment for it currently. When I buy my first house I'm definitely looking forward to having it around and being able to play it whenever I'd like.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE ANYTHING THAT YOU FEEL IS RELEVANT OR IMPORTANT.

The passion music instructors brought to class at Concordia makes me wish I worked harder at it. Having a mini orchestra around 3 out of every 4 days and playing made me develop, but it was an opportunity I wish I had taken more advantage of.
