Everything You Need to Know about Concordia's New Fall University Fair

Concordia International School Shanghai will host the 2nd Annual Concordia Fall University Fair (CFUF), an event that gives high school students in Shanghai access to college reps from top universities around the globe. Last year over 125 universities attended.  Below, are some of the unique features of the new fall fair and some advice to students on how to best prepare for their encounter with representatives from prospective universities.

How does the fall fair differ from other fairs?

The new fall fair is more targeted and intended to provide junior and senior students with opportunities to meet with university reps during the college application season.  The date of the fair, October 13, falls approximately two weeks prior to early application deadlines for many universities.

Only university representatives employed directly with a university have been asked to attend the fall fair. Additionally, a number of universities who will be joining the fair will be holding individual senior meetings with students.

Universities that choose to hold individual senior meetings will do so between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The option to provide an individual senior meeting is left to the discretion of each university representative. Please keep in mind that not all schools will be offering individual senior meetings.

Also, this year we are partnering with Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS).  They are offering Pre-College Fair workshops lead by university representatives on Saturday, October 12, which is the day before the fair from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  The topics covered in the workshops will prepare students to get more out of attending the fair.  Topics such as interviewing skills, researching colleges, how to complete college applications, etc. will be covered.

Who is invited to the fair?

Because the timing falls within the college application cycle, the fall fair is only open to junior (Grade 11) and senior (Grade 12) students throughout Shanghai.

In order to attend the fair, students are required to complete the registration process, where they will receive a free admission ticket good for one student and one adult. There is no charge for registration or entrance to the fair—admission is free.

Advice for students planning to attend the fall fair

Students can make the most of their time at the fair by joining the CWUF WeChat group (QR code below), where they can review the attending colleges prior to the event.

It is strongly suggested that students explore a range of schools, not just the ones they already know. We would advise students to take the time to identify at least six schools they’ve never heard of and to research their locations and programs beforehand—students may be pleasantly surprised by what they discover.

Students are also encouraged to bring labels with their name, citizenship, school name, email address and program of interest to share with university reps and request a chance to speak with them between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm if they have more questions about the school.

What should students bring to the fair?

Students hoping to sit for an interview should bring with them copies of their resume, unofficial transcripts and unofficial standardized test scores if possible. This information will help guide their conversation with university representatives.

Students should also come prepared with some of their own questions about particular schools and programs. The fair will be the perfect chance to learn more from those who truly know the schools and what they have to offer.

The college application process is extremely important for all high school students, as the outcome helps set them on the path to their future. Concordia’s university fairs are intended to provide an opportunity and a venue in which students can broadly consider their options for higher education. In this way students are more likely to find schools and programs that best fit their academic and career goals.
