Kendra, Class of '18--Oakland University

Kendra, Class of 18--Oakland UniversityWHICH UNIVERSITY ARE YOU PLANNING TO ATTEND AND WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR CHOICE?

I am going to be attending Oakland University, Rochester MI. While looking for schools I wanted to find something that seems comfortable. With OU I really enjoyed the size of school (not too large, not too small), the campus is in a beautiful natural setting but close to larger US cities (Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto), the strong relationships with global corporations will benefit my career options, and the most unique part is I was recruited to play Women's Soccer for the school's Division I program and am really excited to work with the new Coaching Staff.

WAS THERE A PARTICULAR PROGRAM THAT INTERESTED YOU WHEN CHOOSING WHERE TO APPLY?

Although I am currently undecided, Oakland has a broad range of programs such as Engineering, Business, and Mandarin. Although many US schools offer these programs, the above combined factors made this one clearly appealing

IN YOUR TIME AT CONCORDIA WHICH CLASSES, PROGRAMS OR SCHOOL RELATED ACTIVITIES HELPED TO SUPPORT YOUR INTEREST IN YOUR MAJOR?

There are so many classes at Concordia that help you become interested a specific area of study. Some of my favorites have been Maths, Physics, Social Entrepreneurship, Mandarin, Psychology, Physical Education.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MADE YOUR APPLICATION(S) STAND OUT?

Although my application was unique in some ways because of the soccer recruitment I think that some of the parts from my application that stood out was education from a rigorous high school, unique developmental path for soccer with my club experiences, relationships built with university coaches, trainers and soccer experts in Shanghai, Michigan and California, and perspective from multiple global living experiences (Shanghai, Germany, California, Michigan).

WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT COLLEGE LIFE?

What excited me most about college life is the opportunity to live in yet another region (I barely remember the last time I lived in MI), ability to study the topics that interest me most, being able to contribute to the soccer program, benefit from their world-class facilities and staff, and meeting new people from around the world.
