The College Board will include the work of recent Concordia graduate Yukine Yanagi in its 2016-2017 AP Studio Art Exhibit, which features outstanding artworks by 30 select students from around the world who submitted portfolios for the AP Studio Art Exam in May 2016.
According to College Board, each work chosen "exemplifies the extremely high level of rigor, commitment, and accomplishment that AP Studio Art students can achieve."The collection, therefore, showcases the diverse ideas, materials, and processes employed by each of the students selected.
Yukine Yanagi's inspiration for the art piece
In her artist statement, Yukine indicates that she typically creates art inspired by surreal scenes from her imagination which she renders using a variety of media. Though the piece on display differs from her other work, in that it's an "everyday scene" that required studied observation and technique, it is still presented in her own style.
HOW A CONCORDIA HIGH SCHOOL ART TEACHER SAW YUKINE'S DETERMINATION
Concordia high school art teacher Jane Klammer had this to say about her former student's work:
"Yukine took an ordinary object and transformed it into an extraordinary composition, intentionally using the swirling motion of the tissue paper and finishing with mature graphite rendering.
"In my AP Studio class, I strongly support real life observation artworks as well as imaginative compositions. I support my students' desire to be respected as artists, not just as students of art. Yukine's determination to become the best artist she could be has been an inspiration for me as a teacher, mentor and artist."
The 2016-2017 AP Studio Art Exhibit will be displayed in galleries and conference center in Princeton, New Jersey, St. Petersburg, Florida, and Washington D.C. from September 2016 to July 2017.
Yukine Yanagi graduated from Concordia International School Shanghai in 2016 and is currently attending the Rhode Island School of Design.
