WARNING: Imagination Outbreak 'Spotted' in Elementary School

Dot-Day

If you happened to walk through the ES building last Friday, perhaps you noticed something a bit out of the ordinary. Everywhere you looked there were dots! They were on students, on teachers, even on the ES Principals. It was an outbreak of dots! No, it wasn't an itchy illness you were seeing but a contagious celebration of uniqueness, courage and creativity brought on by International Dot Day.

How Dot Day started at Concordia

This yearly event is inspired by Peter H. Reynold's classic book, The Dot, which is the tale of a teacher who encourages one of her students to have faith in her abilities and uniqueness. From a dot on a page, this young student sets out into the world to make her mark. The Dot is a triumphant story, and a reminder that the smallest productions, moments, actions, and even people, have the power to impact us and our world!

Throughout the week and a half leading up to the celebration, Mr. Eric Semler, ES Principal, visited each ES classroom to read Peter Reynold's, The Dot. On Friday, our ES students joined the millions of participants around the word in more than 160 countries to celebrate Dot Day!

"Dot Day is one of my favorite days," says third grader Chelsey, "because I can think about the character in the book. Her teacher really thought she was talented...just for a dot."

Derek, another third grader loves Dot Day because "we can wear dots and remember that we are all unique and special people."

Their teacher, Mrs. Stevenson, "Dot Day is a great way to celebrate individuality; it allows us to see beauty in the simple things."

Dot Day reminds us how thankful we should be that we are blessed with differences and unique attributes, and we have the choice to use them to impact the world around us!
